Very sad news...

On Saturday January 11, 2010, one of our clients, Linda (last names withheld out of respect for the family's privacy), was killed in a fatal one-car accident along Strasburg Road in West Chester.  Linda and her roommate, Tracey, were returning from vacation when their car flipped over.  Linda was always so good with our son Joshua and we absolutely adored her dog, Echo (see below).  We want to pass along our sympathies to Linda's family and friends and hope you will pray for her and Tracey, who is hospitalized.  We also hope you will pray for Echo, who will need a good home.  The family is working now to place Echo and we will update this when we have more information.

Sleepy Paws Charity Mission

Part of Sleepy Paws Pet Services' mission is giving back to the communities and customers in which they serve.  Our first mission of 2010 involves “Give A Hand For A Leg”, a charity to benefit Ruick Rolland, a Downingtown resident.  Ruick is a carpenter and father of two whose leg was crushed by a piece of excavating equipment while on a job last August.  Doctors were forced to amputate the leg, above the knee, to save his life due to the grave infection caused by the severity of the injury.

Doctors have told Ruick that he is in the ninety-fifth percentile for a successful outcome with a prosthetic leg. This would allow him to establish a new “normal” for himself and his family. The prosthesis would also enable him to return to work.

The cost for the type of leg that Ruick requires, due to his size and type of amputation, is in the $40,000-60,000 range.  To make this situation even more complicated Ruick is self-employed and therefore not eligible for Workman’s Compensation and has not been able to work since August.  Unfortunately for Ruick, insurance companies in Pennsylvania classify prosthetics under Durable Medical Equipment, the same as a crutch or a wheelchair.  In Ruick's case, the maximum payout is $1,000.

When you present this charity certificate below, Sleepy Paws will donate 15% of their revenues directly to Ruick.
